Looking for a sad childhood animated movie (80s/90s) about an African boy and his father. (reward!)

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and hopefully share your insights on the title I’m looking for.
What I’m looking for is an animated movie or short from the 80s/90s which had a very sad undertone. I don’t remember much but I’ll try to be as detailed as possible.

If I remember correctly, the cartoon is about a boy and his father who try to survive by hunting. They’re from an African tribe so they don’t live in the modern world, rather in a jungle or savannah. I think they’re venturing alone though, I don’t remember any other tribe members or family. The boy and his father might be on the run or they might be lone survivors of something. The father is strong and can use a big bow to hunt or protect his son and him. Throughout the movie there is often a very mysterious/eerie flute sound or music. The father is teaching the boy how to use a bow at some point. At the end of the movie, the father dies and the boy is left behind alone. He tries to use his father’s bow but is not strong enough to pull the string back, it’s a very sad moment in the movie. I vaguely remember him walking off into the horizon after this and the movie ends. It was heartbreaking.

Some other things I remember very vaguely so they might be faulty memories: There might be a stampede, or animals might be involved in the movie, I’m not sure. There might also be westerners/poachers/people with rifles involved. Either way, I’m not sure if those memories are related.

When asking about this movie a few years ago, people suggested ‘Kirikou’ but it is definitely not Kirikou.

Thank you so much, I hope you’ll be able to help me.

Edit: If anyone does point me in the direction of the title, I’ll offer a reward of 50 euros through paypal. I really want to find this movie.
