Help me find this film for my father…

My father has been thinking about this movie/series for days but can’t remember the title at all nor does he remember a good chunk of the main plot.

Here is what he currently remembers:

• it seems to be set in england
• the protagonist can’t go past the city/town walls for some reason
• the protagonists father goes outside the walls somehow and get a wizard(?) pregnant, but she can’t keep it
• sends the baby back to the father with a candle
• there’s a princess trapped in a star
• There are princes fighting among each other for the throne
