Girl in Ohio befriends man living in woods.

A girl moves to a country town in Ohio. She befriends a man living in the woods who had been traumatized by something in his life. His mother lived in the town. The mother ran a cafe where the girl worked. The woman was going to either sell the cafe or expand it…I can’t remember which but some money was stolen from the safe. There was a man that acted as sheriff and maybe a lawyer. The girl sang a little song “There was a girl from…”. There was a scene where the girl was driving in an old truck and stopped in the woods to tap some maple. I’m guessing it was in the 90s but could be wrong. I can see the faces of two of the actors but don’t know their names.

I believe the opening scene was of the girl on a bus telling her story.
