Movie about a released prisoner who befriends his victim’s sister

It’s a movie about an old man released from prison after serving time for murder he did when he was young. He befriended his victim’s sister. There’s a scene where he becomes an altar boy, passing out pamphlets from the church.

If I recall correctly, the old man has long white hair and facial hair, he could really use a cut and a shave. I believe it’s a movie about redemption and forgiveness, probably drama.

Movie’s date is probably 2000-mid 2010s.
