Looking for a cute movie about childhood romance set in the 20th century?

Okay so all I can gather is it was set in either the 30s, 40s or 50s. I think it was also set in a coal mining town? And I remember in one scene there was a school dance and the two main characters were dancing together. The boy said something like “you’re my girl” to the girl, it was adorable.

I thought it was the movie Flipped but it’s not.
