It’s pre 1996. Famous scene where man is painting with a crown of candles on his head and looks up as his former lover is being taken by one of the invaders. Was a popular SBS World Movies foreign film as they used to show the man looking up from his painting in some of their ads on TV. Not sure if it was Spanish.

Hoping someone knows the answer.

I wanted to list this as a comment, but not able to. Goya used to wear a crown with candles. The movie https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goya_in_Bordeaux
shows his, but is after 1996.
