An orphan is delivered to an older couple in the outback. The woman had ached for this child; the man was callous. Boy celebrates his birthday right of the bat. Soon the woman dies. Boy takes off into the bush and encounters adversity, old man goes after him. Time after time, things will seem dire, and then redemption happens.
