Movie, father trying locate daughter but dies after getting hit by a car when close to finding her.

I am not sure when this movie came out but I am thinking possibly the 1980’s or 1990’s.
In the movie the girl runs off with her boyfriend and the dad is trying to track her down to bring her home. Virtually at the end of the movie, he is in the same town as her, very close and he gets hit by a car and dies on the road.
Unfortunately I can’t remember much else about the movie but am interested in trying to track it down.
