trying to find a japanese black and white film

I am trying to find a black and white (most likely) japanese film. I don’t know the director/writer or any of the actors, I just remember there was a man in a hospital who shared a room with a woman. Most of the time he couldn’t see her because there was some sort of a screen between them, but every time he was able to see her, she would look younger than she did the last time. It may not be japanese, but the actors were definitely Asian.
Hopefully someone will be able to help, I’ve been trying to google it, but nothing useful came up (:
