So I have this super vague memory of a movie I saw as a child (so late 80s at the latest, but it could have been old even at the time). It was (*maybe*?) some kind of thriller. I think the parents were evil/abusive, but it’s possible the kids were or I’m confusing that detail with another movie. (I think part of me is also thinking about the kids from Bloody Birthday, which was another vague memory…)
What I do remember more vividly is the end. The parents are driving their car in some frantic night-time chase, and end up going through a construction zone and drive into a large ditch just as fill dirt is being poured in. The last shot of the movie is a finished highway with their car antenna just barely sticking out of the ground.
So far my searches on Google and other services are turned up tons of other movies, but nothing that looks like what I’m trying to remember. Does anybody else have any idea what movie this was, or has better search skills in finding old movies?
Found it by another source. It was a Dutch movie called “Schatjes!” in 1984. (Sometimes released as “Darlings!” or “Army Brats!” instead.) I guess it was supposedly more of a comedy than a thriller, but took a bit of a dark comedic turn toward a thriller. I don’t remember it as a comedy, but barely remember it at all so anything’s possible. But the ending is a spot-on match for what I do remember.
