Old movie I watched maybe 40 years ago, about a lady that keeps her dead baby’s corpse upstairs in attic & treats her like she’s living, in the meantime has a Xmas party for an orphanage & adopts 2 children. The children jump into a dump waiter & discover this corpse. I remember this being an extremely creepy movie
That movie is the 1972 classic Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? The movie was a retelling of Hansel and Gretel. Shelley Winters played the rich widow who keeps the mummified corpse of her daughter in the attic. She throws an annual Christmas party for the orphanage. One year, she spots a little girl who looks so much like her dead daughter that she decides to keep her. Mark Lester, the little boy who starred in Oliver! played the kidnapped girl’s brother, who comes to her rescue. The film was directed by the extremely talented Curtis Harrington who specialized in modestly budgeted, but very atmospheric horror films, some made for theaters, and others made for American television.
