I am trying to figure out the title of a movie I watched years ago. It was in black and white and it was likely made between 1935 and 1950. I am figuring mid 40’s to mid 50’s. I am not sure who starred in it. It is about a woman that goes to work at an orphanage or children’s home (they reside in a large house rather than an institution). There is a small boy that has trouble walking I think (or maybe talking) and the woman becomes very protective and overly attached to him. She even detours his getting adopted or placed with a foster family. But then at the end of the movie, she has to let him go with a family and he doesn’t want to. He can’t understand why he can’t stay with her. I have tried everything to search for this movie and can’t find it. Hope someone on here can help because it is driving me nuts.
