Scene all I can recall from superb film

I watched a powerful film last year and simply can’t recall the title or actors. It focused on a young girl manipulated by a minister in her small town. He impregnates her and she has his child. The scene that really shook me was when she is contemplating suicide and decides she wants to live, but the stool beneath her slips, and she is hung anyway. Help, anyone?!?
