Documentary about lots of people with the same name

This documentary was about a bunch of people who all had the same name and had very similar lives. I seem to remember the name was Alan Smith but I could misremember. I also seem to remember they lived on the East Coast (of the US) and many of them had an interest in electronics, perhaps electronic audio or music recording equipment.

Anybody know what this movie could be?
